We saved one of the best Facades+ Conferences for last
An amorphous spaceship rises in Los Angeles, and a Portland iconoclast gets a facelift. To the north, Seattle architects are bringing a crafts approach to digital fabrication, while Colorado engineers are peeking beneath the hood of embodied carbon accounting. What do all these projects and ideas have in common?

Find out at one of AN’s final Facades+ conferences of the year. Packed full with keynotes, panel discussion, project presentations, and in-depth how-tos, this event will bring architects and engineers to the (virtual) table to discuss the latest innovations in facade construction. There’s so much to cover, we couldn’t possibly fit it all into one day of programming. So for the first time, AN will be expanding its virtual conference format to a full two days of can’t-miss programming.

Sign up now for the West Coast conference, which will be split over December 3 and 4 (our largest virtual conference yet!). Co-chaired by Olson Kundig principals Alan Maskin and Blair Payson, Day 1 of the conference features keynotes from Maskin and Dang Qun of MAD Architects, while Day 2 will be given over to hands-on workshops. Attendees can earn up to 12 AIA HSW CEUs.

• Explore the exciting trend of kinetic design through case studies like the Space Needle renovation in Seattle and Uber’s new San Francisco HQ, and see how experts from SHoP Architects, Heingtes, Olson Kundig, and Fives Lund pulled off these daring feats of motion.

• Hear from keynote MAD Architects’s Dang Qun about the experimental firm’s latest Los Angeles–based projects, including the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art (that amorphous spaceship), and learn about the facade materials that are making them a reality.

• Get an insider’s look at how LMN Architects and Tom Wiscombe Architecture are incubating advances in facade design within their respective offices.

• Dive into the recent renovation of a Postmodern classic—Michael Graves’s 1982 Portland Building. Learn how DLR Group, KPFF Consulting Engineers, Benson Industries, and Facade Forensics corrected original construction flaws while staying true to Graves’s iconoclastic vision.

• Mix it up in daylong workshops while gleaning valuable insights about measuring embodied carbon in building materials, improving thermal performance of Insulated Glass Units (IGUs), and preserving craft in digital fabrication. Experts from LMN Architects, RDH Building Science, and Studio NYL will be on hand to guide you through these exciting innovative practices and how you might apply them to your own projects.

Interested? Tickets are going fast for the West Coast conference!
