Malnutrition, illness and a higher chance of premature death. Teasing and taunts, bullying and shame. Futures put on hold. The mission of Operation Smile can be boiled down to three words. End unnecessary suffering. Children with cleft conditions face a variety of maladies and it's all so unnecessary. Corrective surgery can usually be done in under an hour. The cost can be as little as $240. And you can do something about it right now. Three things are top of mind today: ·        Thousands of children have had surgeries postponed for safety reasons because of COVID-19. ·        We donated more than $1 million in medical supplies and equipment across 30 countries — including the U.S. — to help front-line responders battle the pandemic ·        We have to keep our promise to the children to return, and we can't do that until we have everything restocked. Your gift will be matched dollar for dollar by a fund created by Leslys Vedder in memory of her husband Jim for donations up to $110,000. Our goal over the last few months has been to provide care where we can when we can. There's more at work here than just humanitarian relief. For a child waiting for surgery, the continued care and contact provides hope. Which brings us to a story from one of our last international missions before the outbreak.
