IT'S THE LAW- Statement 7: Prohibition Against Discrimination
State agencies should be aware that Title XI and the Agencies' regulations prohibit federally regulated financial institutions from excluding appraisers from consideration for an assignment by virtue of their membership, or lack of membership, in any appraisal organization. Federally regulated financial institutions should review the qualifications of appraisers to ensure that they are qualified for the assignment for which they are being considered. It is unacceptable to assume that an appraiser is qualified solely due to membership in, or designation from, an appraisal organization, or the lack thereof. The Agencies have determined that financial institutions' appraisal policies should not favor appraisers from one or more organizations or exclude individuals based on their lack of such membership. If a State agency learns that a certified or licensed appraiser allegedly has been a victim of such discrimination, the State agency should inform the Agency which has regulatory authority over the involved financial institution. You have been identified as someone who may be interested in education for expert witnesses. If not, please reply to this invitation with "UNSUBSCRIBE" in the subject line.
DID YOU KNOW? Forensic Expert Witness Association (FEWA) has local chapters throughout California that provides educational resources just for expert witnesses. Our chapters are in: San Francisco, Sacramento/Sierra, Los Angeles, Orange County, San Diego About Us: FEWA is a nonprofit association just for expert witnesses. Check us out online at www.forensic.org. Begun by volunteer expert witnesses looking to exchange educational information with one another, FEWA has been in existence since 1995 and offers education and training for both newbies and veterans, online and print directories, an annual conference, local dinner meetings, and networking opportunities. FEWA also offers opportunities to improve your stature as an expert through writing articles for our online blog, posting on the members-only LinkedIn page and making presentations.
GET INVOLVED with FEWA: Sign-up for our regional email distribution list so you can be informed about upcoming events in your area. Click Here to join our list!Come to a meeting- it's a great way to meet FEWA members and ask questions. Talk with the chapter leadership and listen to the stories from other experts.Become a member! Visit www.forensic.org to learn more about yearly dues and membership benefits.REPLY to this email with any questions. Our national president, Geoff Hichborn, once said that he thinks FEWA's best benefit is that it gives him a safe place outside of the courthouse to talk about being an expert witness. At a recent dinner meeting a member of the Orange County chapter said that "Steve" got him started and taught him everything he knows. Another attendee then added, "And I learned from 'George'." And so it went around the room. "The majority of the group are seasoned expert witnesses and I saw I could gain a benefit from belonging," remarked a dinner meeting attendee. Another member said he can learn from expert witnesses in other industries because he's learned all he can from people in his own field and sees them as competitors. There are strong, long-time relationships in that chapter, and you can also experience the benefits of these relationships.
